Katherine Simmonds, MS, MPH, WHNP-BC, is Assistant Professor and Track Coordinator of the Women’s Health and the Adult-Gerontology Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Specialties in the School of Nursing at MGH Institute of Health Professors. She is a 1993 graduate of the Institute who joined the faculty in 2000 as clinical instructor in Women's Health and Community Health. She currently teaches at the Advanced Practice level. She received the Institute's Nancy T. Watts Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015.

In addition to teaching, she is a doctoral student at the University of Rhode Island, College of Nursing. She is a 2014-2016 recipient of the Jonas Scholars award and an alumni fellow in the CoreAlign Generative Fellows Program. She has extensive experience as a clinician, most recently working with the Youth Health Centers at the MGH Charlestown Health Center and MGH Chelsea-Roca. She also serves as a trainer and consultant to the Family Planning Program of Action for Boston Community Development.

She is the founder and former director of the Reproductive Options Education Consortium for Nursing, an initiative to bring training and curricula on reproductive options to nurse educators in New England and across the United States and continues to serve as an advisory member to that organization.

Simmonds has been involved in research including a study of women's experiences with medical abortion, and two studies (1997 and 2007) on the inclusion of content on reproductive choice in Massachusetts nursing schools. She has written numerous publications and presented at regional and national conferences on the topic of unintended pregnancy. Her current scholarly work is focused on sexual and reproductive health, particularly within vulnerable populations.
