Jack Gormley, EdD

John B. (“Jack”) Gormley, EdD, is the Dean of Student Services. As Dean, he leads OSAS which provides comprehensive services to assist students with off-campus housing, transportation, co-curricular student life, leadership development opportunities, international student advising, disability services, and career development. He holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Health Professions Education as an assistant professor, teaching and co-teaching courses, seminars, and workshops (online and in person) while supporting master’s and doctoral students and guiding their research.

Dr. Gormley also serves as the Institute’s Title IX Coordinator. Along with Sarah Welch, director of human resources, he leads the IHP’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of gender-based discrimination and misconduct, including but not limited to sexual harassment and sexual violence. This responsibility aligns with Gormley’s enduring commitment to inclusion, respect, and safety for all.   

In 1998, Gormley began his career as a year-round administrator at Yawgoog Scout Reservation, one of the largest Boy Scout camps in the nation. He then taught and served as the head of the middle school at Saint John’s College High School in Washington, DC. At this time, he was also a residential prefect at Georgetown Preparatory High School in North Bethesda, MD.

Gormley has worked in education and student development for more than 15 years, including positions at Marymount University in Arlington, VA, George Washington University in Washington, DC, and Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY. Directly prior to joining the IHP, Dr. Gormley served as Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in New York City.

Gormley also spent almost five years working at the Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC, membership-based research and consulting firm dedicated to best practices in the healthcare and education field. His roles included launching new consulting engagements, training hospital staff on healthcare business intelligence software (mainly revenue cycle management and acuity-based nurse scheduling), and other member services responsibilities.

Gormley earned his Bachelor's degree at Rhode Island College in his hometown of Providence, RI. He was awarded a 1996 Ridgway Shinn Study Abroad Scholarship for summer studies at the South Bank University of London and the Semester in Irish Studies program at the National University of Ireland – Dublin. His subsequent Master of Science in mental health counseling degree from Manhattan College included a 750-hour internship at the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center, part of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Rose Kennedy University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. In 2017, Gormley completed a doctoral dissertation on the self-actualization of LGBTQ students at private, religious colleges. He earned a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in executive leadership from Saint John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, that same year.

A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Gormley remains committed to promoting equitable student engagement and inclusive leadership development with and for all students and alumni.
