Prerequisites: None.  Pass/Fail option available. This online course presents an overview of the evolution of healthcare informatics from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students will learn healthcare informatics history, concepts, theories, legal and ethical implications, and applications within the healthcare industry.

Prerequisites: None.  Pass/Fail option available. The informatics policy class focuses on the current policy around healthcare delivery and use of health information technology. Topics include meaningful use, healthcare reform, payment reform, patient-centered outcomes research (PCORI), the changing role of the patient, and technology transformation. Public health policy will be discussed as it relates to registries, patient databases, epidemiology and bio-surveillance. A history of health information technology, informatics, and governance of large-scale technology projects will also be covered.

Addictions Certificate for Health Care Professionals

NH-742-DL - Pharmacology of Addictions
Prerequisites: None. Pass/Fail option available. This course will provide students with in-depth knowledge of pharmacology topics related to addictions.  Students will understand the pharmacologic/physiologic action of substances that often lead to SUD/Addiction including effects such as intoxication, overdose, and withdrawal syndromes.  Pharmacology related to non-substance
addiction will also be discussed. Students will examine the evidence for pharmacotherapy treatment options for multiple substance use disorders and be able to design appropriate pharmacotherapy-based care plans.

Prerequisites: None. This course will introduce the learner to basic theories of adult teaching and learning, with a focus on the teaching and learning relationship. Learners will explore the contexts of teaching and learning that are common in health professions education, consider the impact of culture on teaching and learning and consider how different theories of teaching and learning may impact learning experiences.
Includes critical analysis of selected theories and their application to a variety of educational environments in health professions education.

Prerequisites: None. This course provides an overview of the stress system as it relates to health, illness, and the human experience. Concepts including allostasis, allostatic load, and resilience, along with the physiology of relaxation response will be presented, with evidence supporting clinical and interprofessional applications. Self-care practices will be presented and encouraged.
