Dr. Nara Gavini Hired as Research Director
MGH Institute of Health Professions has hired Dr. Nara Gavini as its Executive Director of Research.
Dr. Gavini will be responsible for managing and advancing the research and scholarship programs, supporting ongoing research operations, facilitating faculty development, research marketing and branding, promoting research partnerships, and providing financial insight.
In addition to his research duties, he will have an academic appointment as a Professor in the School of Nursing.
Before joining the MGH Institute, Dr. Gavini served as Chief of the NIH Office of Extramural Programs (OEP) at the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR/NIH) where he oversaw all activities, and NHLBI/NIH Chair of Diversity Programs. He also served as a Health Scientist Administrator at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and worked as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Dr. Gavini also held a professorship at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and served as Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at Mississippi State University. He has been a Principal Investigator for NSF, NIH and USDA research grants.
His scientific expertise covers biological, chemical, computational, quantitative, and analytical sciences. He also has facilitated research collaborations and promoted diversity programs.
Dr. Gavini received a Master of Philosophy in Genetic Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India and a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Melbourne in Australia.
