Carol Vallone is a seasoned CEO, Board Chair, and Board Member with a stellar track record in launching, scaling and selling global market-leading SAAS companies. Her strong background in designing growth strategies that generate financial results has also greatly benefited public, private, and non-profit healthcare, financial services, and eCommerce organizations.
Vallone’s expertise includes defining new and expanded market opportunities; positioning and launching strategic products and services; developing ROI-driven marketing and sales strategies; executing mergers and acquisitions to fast forward growth; raising capital from venture, private equity, and strategic partners; and exit strategies.
In 1999 Vallone launched WebCT Inc., the company that defined and delivered the premier elearning solution for colleges and universities. As President & CEO and Board Chair, she built a global higher education customer base of almost two thousand institutions in seventy countries. Working with Goldman Sachs, she successfully sold the SAAS company in 2006. In 2008 Vallone served as Board Chair, then took over as President & CEO of Wimba Corporation, a leader in virtual collaboration software for higher education. Vallone spearheaded global expansion, launched new products, and led the SAAS company through a successful sale in 2010. From 2012 - 2017, Vallone served as CEO and Board Member of Meteor Learning, a company she launched that enables higher education institutions to deliver high-quality, online, employer-aligned degrees for working professionals.
In 2018, Vallone was elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Strategy Committee at McLean Hospital, a major teaching facility of Harvard Medical School that is world renowned for its psychiatric clinical services and neuroscience research. Her current focus is on guiding the development of a five-year strategic plan and on expanding programs to generate incremental sources of revenue. She also serves on the Board of Trustees and is a member of the Finance and Business Development Committees at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, a post-secondary institution offering graduate degrees in health sciences, where she is focused on expansion strategies and business development.
Vallone has served as a board member of a private-equity backed eCommerce company, Demandware Inc., where she focused on financial, marketing, and sales strategies in preparation for an IPO. After a successful IPO, the company was sold to Salesforce.com. She also served as a board member of a public financial services company, Beverly National Bank, where she focused on corporate and financial strategies to position the organization for sale. A successful sale was completed to Danversbank with a subsequent sale to People’s United.
Prior to her pioneering efforts in the education space, Vallone held several executive positions in leading corporate technology companies.
