Dr. Foord joined the MGH Institute in 2012, after serving many years at Simmons College teaching in the Department of Physical Therapy and founding their first fully online programs.

Dr. Foord designed and built the online “Bridge” (transitional) Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Simmons in 2001, and then founded and led the Department of Online Teaching and Learning in Simmons’ School for Health Sciences 2001–2011. She also served as the Interim Director of Academic Technology from 2010–2011.

In her work as instructional designer and instructor in the online, classroom and laboratory environments, Dr. Foord focuses on learning-centered instruction, in which students learn not only the required knowledge and skills, but also how to continue their own explorations and learning. As the Director of the Prerequisites for the Health Professions Program, Dr. Foord looks forward to continuing to build the program, adding courses and expanding the schedule to meet the needs of students preparing for graduate study in the health care professions.

As in her own teaching, Dr. Foord will collaborate with instructors and instructional designers to promote learning-centered teaching and build communities of learning throughout the program.
