Mission and Goals

HILL is a professional development organization devoted to improving the literacy skills of all children, particularly struggling readers.

HILL goals are to:

  1. Engage school districts in educational partnerships to improve students' literacy achievement through a systemic schoolwide literacy change initiative. Initial focus is on Pre-K and elementary students with roll-out assistance to middle and high schools within a partner district.
  2. Train literacy teams and teachers in the core reading/writing skills necessary to teach every child to read to his or her potential.
  3. Provide change management and process management guidance and support to school and district leadership and literacy teams so literacy improvements can be developed and sustained.
  4. Transfer expertise in literacy and assessment to district educators as quickly as possible.

HILL fulfills this mission by delivering programs and services in four areas:

  • Teacher training and consultation
  • Research and evaluation of measured outcomes
  • In-service professional development and collaborative mentoring
  • Development of resource tools and protocols.
