Clarification on Immunization Requirements
Where can I go to get immunizations?
Several students have asked for direction as to where to obtain immunizations/titres. The Medical Walk-in Clinic at MGH, (617) 726-2707, is likely the closest and most accessible location to obtain titres. The Walk-In Clinic is on the main floor of the Wang Building at MGH.
Another option for vaccines is the MGH Travel Clinic in the Cox Building, 5th Floor, MGH. You must make an appointment to be seen at the MGH Travel Clinic.
Please check with the clinics prior to going to ensure that they have the vaccine you need or are able to do the titre within the timeframe required.
CVS MinuteClinic also offers some of these services and a fee schedule can be found on their vaccination page.
Students should also check with their local boards of health as to screenings and immunizations available in their community at low or no cost to them. For example, the Somerville Board of Health will do Tb testing for $15.
Students are responsible for all costs related to immunizations.
What about the Flu shot?
As you know, ALL matriculated MGH Institute Students MUST have a flu shot (or signed declination) on file with Sentry MD by November 15 of each year.
Flu shots are now available at many locations, including your primary care office, some city/town boards of health, and many local pharmacies such as CVS MinuteClinic.
You are welcome to get your Flu Shot at MGH Occupational Health – these are at no cost to you. You must have your MGH IHP Student ID badge with you, as well as the Sentry MD documentation to get your Flu shot at MGH Occupational Health. Go to MGH Occupational Health Services at 165 Charles River Plaza, Suite 404 for a flu shot or call 617-726-2217 to schedule an appointment.
REGARDLESS of where you receive your flu shot, you must submit the Sentry MD documentation form signed by the licensed administrator of the flu vaccine to FileMD BEFORE the November 15 deadline! Please print the form and bring it with you when you go to get your Flu shot. Please keep a copy of the signed form for your own records.
Can I send a copy of my ID badge with the Green Sticker to Sentry MD?
No, sending a copy of your ID badge is not acceptable documentation.
IF you got your Flu shot at an MGH Occupational Health Clinic, you can go to MGH Occupational Health with your ID badge and green sticker and get a documentation form from them that you can submit to Sentry MD.
Regardless of where you receive your flu shot, you must submit documentation signed by the licensed administrator of the flu vaccine to Sentry MD before the November 15 deadline!
I got my flu shot at my primary care providers, but will be at MGH for a clinical placement in January. How do I get a green sticker?
Before your clinical starts, you can go to MGH Occupational Health and show them your flu documentation; they will give you a green sticker for your ID badge as long as your documentation is complete (dated, signed, and clearly states current flu vaccine).
What do I need to do?
Please print the Immunization History/Certification Form and bring it with you to your appointment; and keep a copy of the signed form for your own records.
