Reading Specialist License

If you are interested in acquiring a Reading Specialist License at the same time you acquire your Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, this is one of the few (if not the only) programs in the country through which you can do that.

To obtain the training needed to qualify for licensure as a Reading Specialist, you’ll need to concentrate five of your seven required elective credits on reading-related coursework and take an additional specialty offsite practicum over and above your three required offsite practicums. You will then be qualified to apply for a Reading Specialist License from the Massachusetts Department of Education. You will likely be qualified to apply for a Reading Specialist License in other states as well, depending on their reciprocity agreements with Massachusetts. Check with your state's education deparment for specific details and requirements.

Special Note: It is not necessary to have a teaching license prior to entering the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program. You will become eligible for one through your coursework in this program.
