Nursing Admission Requirements

In addition to the Basic Admissions Requirements, the following program-specific requirements must be met:

Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Prerequisite Checklist:

Please complete the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Prerequisite Checklist for inclusion with your application for admission.

Prerequisite Coursework:

Satisfactory completion of the following prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better are required for admission (all courses should be completed within 5 years of the application*). All prerequisites must be satisfactorily completed prior to matriculation.

  • Human Anatomy
  • Human Physiology
  • Chemistry (including some Organic Chemistry)
  • Microbiology
  • Human Nutrition
  • Statistics

    *Applicants may apply for a waiver of this policy by completing the Prerequisite Time Limit Waiver Request Form, which identifies the course(s) the applicant is asking to be waived from the policy along with qualifying rationale.

Standarized Test Information:

The GRE test is not required for admission to the Accelerated BSN program


Master of Science (Non-Nurses)

Prerequisite Checklist:

Please complete the Direct-Entry Master of Science in Nursing Prerequisite Checklist for inclusion with your application.

Prerequisite Coursework:

Satisfactory completion of the following prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better are required for admission (all courses should be completed with 5 years of the application*). All prerequisites must be satisfactorily completed prior to matriculation:

  • Human Anatomy
  • Human Physiology
  • Chemistry (including some Organic Chemistry)
  • Microbiology
  • Human Nutrition
  • Statistics

Students may take all courses except Statistics at the MGH Institute of Health Professions as part of Science Summer prior to Fall enrollment.

Standardized Test Information:

The GRE general test is required for admission. However, the GRE requirement may be waived, with program approval, by submitting the GRE Waiver Request Form. Please refer to the Test Scores page on our website for further information.

Post-Professional Options for RNs

  • Provide a copy of all professional state licenses.

  • Provide evidence of current RN licensure.

  • Master of Science Applicants: A graduate or undergraduate Statistics course is a prerequisite for RNs applying to the MS in Nursing program.

Doctor of Nursing Practice

  • Provide evidence of current RN licensure.
     
  • A personal interview is required for those being considered for admission. Interviews are by invitation only.
