Application Essay Questions

Applicants are required to answer all questions listed under the program in which they are applying. Answers should be typed, double-spaced, and no longer than three pages in total. Margins should be a minimum of one inch and type size should be no smaller than 10-point, with 12-point type preferred. Please make sure your full name and the last four digits of your Social Security number are included on all pages.

Communication Sciences and Disorders Program

Q: Discuss your personal and professional experiences, your academic interests and objectives, and your career aspirations. Address how and why you feel the MGH Institute of Health Professions can help you to achieve your academic and professional goals. Include any other information you believe is relevant.

Medical Imaging Program

Q: Explain why you wish to enter the field of Medical Imaging, as well as your future goals.

Nursing Programs

Doctor of Nursing Practice

Applicants are required to answer both essay questions:

1. Describe your professional growth since you completed your graduate degree. Use specific examples to highlight this process in areas of leadership, clinical innovation, and/or scholarship accomplishment (1-2 double-spaced pages).

2. Complete a 1-2 page, double-spaced essay statement that:

• Articulates a set of professional goals consistent with DNP preparation;
• Details the knowledge that the Institute DNP curriculum will provide you to meet those goals;
• Provide some examples of projects you would like to pursue as part of your DNP program coursework. (Please familiarize yourself with the DNP course descriptions, particularly the Research Practicum, Residency and Capstone Courses).

Master of Science in Nursing and Certificate of Advanced Study

Essay should address each of the following:

1. Tell us why you want to become a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist.
2. Tell us how past experiences and/or influences have contributed to your decision to become a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist.
3. What are your professional nursing goals and plans and how will your graduate nursing education at the MGH Institute of Health Professions help you to achieve those goals?

Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Q: Express your reasons for wanting to enter the nursing profession. How do you view the role of nurses in the healthcare field?

Physical Therapy Programs

Entry-Level Doctor of Physical Therapy:

Post-Professional Physical Therapy Programs (except tDPT):

1. Clinical decision making is an important part of professional Physical Therapy practice. Please describe a situation that illustrates how you make clinical decisions.
2.  Describe the scope of Physical Therapist's practice in your country, in terms of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Function (for International applicants only).
   
   Transitional DPT: No Essay Required.

Teaching and Learning Certificate

Q: Share/discuss your vision for yourself in the role of health care educator, including your future goals and plans. Your comments may reflect your personal experiences and beliefs about health care that have influenced your interest in the area of education. Specify the types of health care roles and responsibilities that have contributed to your decision to pursue study in health care education. You may choose to share stories or influential educators to illustrate your points.
