Online Certificate Programs in
Mind Body Spirit Nursing
Based on the inseparable connection among mind, body and spirit, these new certificate programs promote the incorporation of a holistic and integrated mind body spirit approach to health care. The Mind Body Spirit Nursing programs provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely and effectively integrate conventional and complementary approaches to patient assessment and management − with an emphasis on the potential for health and healing in human systems.
Designed according to the standards of practice by the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA), the programs provide an innovative blend of course work and experiential learning. The online program delivery provides maximum flexibility for a variety of schedules.
The programs are endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses' Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC). As a graduate of the programs, you are eligible to sit for national certification by the AHNCC.
Two Certificate Options Are Available
The Online Certificate of Completion in Mind Body Spirit Nursing is a 9-credit option available to registered nurses with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. It includes courses in mind body spirit health and healing principles; self-care; research methods and critique; integrative mind body spirit interventions; as well as individualized study in a topic area of interest. See Curriculum for the Certificate of Completion.
The Online Post-Master’s Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) is designed for Post-NP/CNS practitioners. This 15-credit option includes the curriculum from the nine-credit certificate as well as an additional course in MBS interventions and two precepted practicum courses in MBS Nursing. The CAS certificate is designed to be completed in three contiguous semesters, or one calendar year, with students taking five credits per semester. See Curriculum for the Certificate of Advanced Study.
The programs’ curriculum is grounded in scientific theory and evidence-based interventions and reflective of holistic nursing, with healing the whole person as its goal. It emphasizes practices of intentionality, presence, and mindfulness to facilitate healing in others, and draws on nursing knowledge, theories, research, intuition, and creativity. A focus on nurse self-care and personal development is integrated throughout the program.
Students have contact with nationally renowned faculty and preceptors in the field of mind body spirit nursing and integrative health therapies. The CAS includes one experiential, on-site practicum at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of research projects.
See the 15-credit Certificate of Advanced Study application process for prerequisites and other admission requirements.
For the Certificate of Completion no application form is needed and there is no formal matriculation. You register for courses as a non-degree student. Registration for fall 2015 courses will open in the summer.
